Workshops and Homework (Joy Torchia)

  • Episode #81

Melinda is joined by return guest and business coach Joy Torchia. The two explore the nuances, advantages, and disadvantages in response to a listener’s question: What are your thoughts on giving clients homework versus workshopping during sessions?

Joy Torchia is a certified coach in the ACES program at Mirasee and founder of Torchlight Life Design LLC. Prior to coaching, she was in the nonprofit sector for two decades, developing entrepreneurship education programs for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What’s the difference between workshopping and homework?
  • Why is it important to give homework to coaching clients?
  • What are some of the mistakes that coaches make when giving homework or wanting to workshop something with their clients during a session?
  • What’s getting in the way of your goals?
  • The importance of celebrating progress.

Joy Torchia, certified coach and consultant, enjoys working with entrepreneurs as they develop business strategy and increase their own performance and productivity to deliver business results and experience the life rewards they desire.

For more than 20 years at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Joy served on staff teams that produced and delivered innovative entrepreneurship education programs while also being involved in community-wide support networks for entrepreneurs.

In addition to being an ACES Coach at Mirasee, she’s the founder of and runs her consulting and coaching business Torchlight Life Design LLC. . She holds a master’s degree in business administration and management, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
