Why Cameras Off Doesn’t Mean Disengaged: Virtual Visibility Truth

  • Episode #330

Why do leaders assume cameras-off means disengaged? Sarah Pocklington reveals the truth about virtual visibility and how this bias erodes trust and silences quieter contributors. Learn to invite rather than demand cameras-on and create inclusive remote meetings where every team member can contribute.

Sarah Pocklington
is a speaker, facilitator and coach. For more than 30 years, Sarah has helped leaders tackle bad behaviour in the room and now she’s focused on eliminating it in the online workplace where camera use has become a source of conflict. Sarah helps leaders and managers connect with their hybrid and remote teams to make online meetings more productive by turning cameras off into cameras on, without forcing anyone.

Her talks challenge assumptions and attitudes to “camera off” behaviour and offer practical ways to build trust, engagement, productivity and retention. She was a Finalist for Emerging Speaker of the Year 2026 (Professional Speaking Association UK & Ireland) and recently spoke at BrightonSEO. In her spare time, Sarah is a boat owner, paddleboarder, wild swimmer, indoor skydiver and she owns a cat.
