Practical Mind-Body Tools for Coaches and Clients (Richard Chandler)

  • Episode #34

Discover the profound mind-body connection with guest Richard Chandler. Practical techniques like breathwork and mindfulness reveal how physical actions can influence mental states. This episode offers transformative strategies for wellness professionals and coaches aiming to enhance client results.

In each episode of Neuroscience of Coaching, host Dr. Irena O’Brien explains the science-based insights behind a particular concept and interviews a coach to discuss how these apply in the real world. Just as she does in her professional programs, Irena “un-complicates” neuroscience and teaches practical, evidence-based tools and strategies that listeners can use in their coaching practices.

“And in doing this work, you can also use the body as your ally.”

— Richard Chandler

Richard Chandler, MA, LPC, is a psychotherapist who specializes in counseling and therapy for business partners (like couples therapy for people in business together). His approach, rooted in holistic wellness and strength-based therapy, empowers clients to navigate challenging life situations, business obstacles, and relationship difficulties.

Inspired by a holistic approach to wellness, Richard’s work helps clients increase their insight by more fully tuning into themselves and their business partners. With increased understanding and the tools learned in therapy, clients gain the skills to improve their communication and relationships with each other.

His business experience in risk management consulting and leadership training also informs his work with CEOs through executive coaching. He also frequently helps individuals with career consulting to reinvent their work life.

Outside his professional commitments, Richard finds joy in music as a composer and performer. He also practices and teaches yoga to maintain mindfulness, physical fitness, and stress management. He enjoys riding his bicycle in natural settings and relaxing with his life partner, Bonnett Chandler.

Dr. Irena O’Brien teaches coaches and care professionals how to achieve better results for their clients through neuroscience.

She is the founder of Neuroscience School, which helps practitioners understand and apply insights from cutting-edge neuroscience research. She loves seeing her students gain confidence in their ability to evaluate neuroscience findings and use them successfully in their own practices. Her Certificate Program in Neuroscience is certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) for Continuing Coaching Education credit.

Dr. O’Brien has studied neuroscience for 25 years and holds a Ph.D. in the field from the Université du Quebec à Montréal (UQAM), where she did brain-imaging studies. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Language, Mind, and Brain at McGill University.
