How to Earn Extra Money: A Six-Figure Revenue in 73 Days?

  • George HuangGeorge Huang

how to earn extra money“Generating six-figure revenue just doesn’t have to take a long time.”

At least, that’s what one of my business advisors told me when I started out in the entrepreneurial world. In theory, what he said made sense. But I didn’t believe it… until I had done it myself.

Frustrated with the state of “modern” healthcare, I retired as a board-certified plastic surgeon at the age of 40 in 2003. A couple of years later, I hung out my shingle as a professional business coach in 2005. But other than a “shingle,” I had no website, blog, business contacts, or success stories. Heck, at that point, I had never had a single client pay me for business advice.

Unwittingly, I became somewhat of a folk legend in some circles after I created an annualized six-figure revenue stream in 73 days. And for the next seven years, I sustained six-figure production during a tumultuous economy…

What does a six-figure business really mean to you?

If you’re a service-oriented entrepreneur who is working hard to establish or maintain a reliable five-figure revenue stream, then a six-figure revenue stream might seem like nirvana.

For a moment, imagine how different things could be in your business, if you knew how to earn extra money:

  • More free time?
  • More disposal income?
  • Ability to hire additional help?
  • Greater ability to expand operations?
  • More capacity to serve others?

What else?

Do you have what it takes to earn extra money fast?

Call me naïve, but I didn’t think that what I had done was a big deal or remarkable achievement. From my perspective, I was simply glad that I didn’t have to go back to practicing as a plastic surgeon to support my young and expanding family! I wanted to be at home, instead.

In retrospect, many factors contributed to such rapid and sustained revenue. I’ve identified some of them; see which ones apply to you and your current situation:

  • An unshakeable belief in my ability to provide tremendous value to others.
  • Persistence in finding a way to leverage my strengths and talents to attract and engage potential clients, and then naturally turn them into paying clients.
  • Singular focus on working with existing resources, rather than lamenting about what I lacked.
  • A fortuitous confluence of determination, strategy, bold actions, people, conversations, and events that led to attracting potential clients who resonated

But is generating six-figures fast reproducible?

Of course, many other factors played a role. But the more important question is: “Is it reproducible?”

In other words, could I help others similarly generate rapid increases in their revenue?

Great question. It turns out that with my guidance, along with my documented systems and strategies that I personally used to create a sustainable six-figure revenue stream, others have indeed achieved remarkable results.

In fact, one of my clients bested my record; he achieved his annualized six-figure revenue stream in 71 days. Another recent client, who had never earned more than $250/month from his coaching services, achieved $8,500 month by his 99th day of working with me. But the end of the 12th month, he had reached $23,000/month. And I frequently forget to talk about my client did went the “slow” route – steady six-figure revenue stream by about 180 days.

But you probably shouldn’t do what I did…

I know it’s tempting to try to model someone else’s success, using their particular approach or “blueprint.” The problem is, though, that you’d have to be that person for his or her approach to work exactly the same way for you! So what I specifically did wouldn’t necessarily work out the same way for you.

In contrast, I know many other colleagues who have generated six- and seven-figure revenue streams within a 12-24 month timeframe.

So clearly, my perspective on the world isn’t the only one. And neither is my approach to rapidly accelerating my revenue.

What Makes the Difference Between Generating Six-Figures Fast and Six-Figures Slowly?

Being the “Curious George” that I am, I began to wonder what I could learn from studying the journeys of others who have rapidly created six- and seven-figure revenue streams within a short period of time.

In my research, I’ve found remarkable commonalities and differences in philosophies and approaches among service-oriented entrepreneurs who have generated significant revenue increases within remarkable timeframes.

The Commonalities:

  • Preparation
  • Perseverance
  • High-end clients or products
  • Focusing on bare essentials
  • Throwing perfection out the door
  • Intense focus on producing outcomes for one’s self and for clients
  • A muzzle for “head trash” that only serves to limit taking bold, decisive action

The Differences:

  • Some offer services (39%), others offer programs (39%), and others offer products (28%)
  • Differing lead-generation strategies
  • Differing client conversion approaches
  • Some escaped from the corporate world; some had prior entrepreneurial experience; others had little or no prior entrepreneurial experience

Success can be really messy

Don’t worry; I don’t have any aspirations of publishing a boring, academic research study about what I’ve found! But you might find these simple statistics interesting.

Of 18 experts who have generated six- and seven-figure revenue increases within a 12 month period (including me), almost 56% of us created our first six-figure breakthrough using offline strategies and tactics. The remaining 44% used online approaches. Yet, almost 80% of us (14 of 18) rely on online business models and strategies to sustain our revenue!

I’ve personally found it instructive and inspiring to hear and discuss the real background stories about the paths each of them took to six-figures and beyond. I’m not talking about the “sterilized” and “glamorized” versions of our stories, the ones you frequently hear at the beginning of a teleseminar or webinar or that you read on a website.

I’m talking about the REAL story, the one that includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. The mistakes. The pain and anguish. The flops. And the colossal failures.

This is real-world stuff because for the most part, success is really messing! The only place success follows a straight line, without any bumps, bruises, or concussions is the hallucinations you get by reading far too many sales pages that promise the “quick and easy” blueprint for achieving [you fill in the blank].

Universal principles and keys to rapid revenue acceleration…

Rather than attempting to summarize the things I’ve learned by probing into the “back stories” of my “rapid six-figure” colleagues, I’m certain you’ll gain greater insight, inspiration, and value by hearing it “from the horse’s mouth.”

I think that if you had a chance to hear what they have to say and what actually goes on “behind the scenes,” you’d quickly see a common pattern and theme: That there are indeed universal principles of success and keys to rapid revenue acceleration that they’ve each tapped into. Each in their own unique style.

In just a few days from now, I’m going to engage each of the 17 experts that I included as part of my “informal research study” in behind-the-scenes conversations about their particular journey to six-figures and beyond.

(And yes, in case you’re wondering, our very own Danny Iny of Mirasee is on the list!) 😉

In my career as a surgeon, I’ve interviewed literally thousands of patients. So I know how to ask the right questions to get to the juiciest parts of their stories. I’ll be asking them about what inspired them to start their businesses, what worked, what didn’t work. Perhaps most telling, I’ll get each of these experts to share how they overcame their deep-seated fears, self-doubt, and trying circumstances to generate 6- and 7-figure revenue streams, typically in less than 12 months.

I want you to attend this this virtual event as my guest…

…so you’ll get to ask questions of your own.

This is a rare opportunity to hear the “unsterilized” versions of how each of us (including our host, Danny Iny of Mirasee) created six- and seven-figure revenue streams within months.

At absolutely no charge, you’ll get access to 19 Expert Sessions, including live Q&A sessions. Plus, two Expert Discussion Panels with live coaching “hot seats.”

Click here to get your free PREMIUM ACCESS PASS for the summit

Again, there’s no fee to attend live, but here’s a tip: Over 250,000 entrepreneurs like you will be invited to this event and you’re one of the first to hear about it. Spots on the conference call line are truly limited, so register now and put the dates into your calendar right away.

P.S. The conversations you’ll get in on will NOT be pitch-fests!

It looks very promising
I guess winning 6 figures slowly comes from a limiting belief
I’m very curious to hear the stories!

George

Jean-Luc,
You’ve made a good point. You can either believe that you can personally create a six-figure revenue stream quickly or not. Either way, the story you tell, based on your beliefs, creates your reality.

Just think about the 4-minute mile analogy. For a long time, people thought it was humanly impossible. Clearly, that was a false and limiting belief.

And for a long time, “experts” said that having a personal computer in every home was a ridiculous fantasy. Myth busted.

So what if creating a six-figure revenue stream in, say, 90 days, became commonplace?

What beliefs would need to be upgraded? That’s what you’ll learn about at the Rapid Revenue Acceleration Summit!

angela

Looking forward this webinar. I am really struggling and have no idea where to start,
so this is really timely.

Also, does your presentation include a solution for Marionette lines? 🙂

take good care
Angela

George

Angela,
Yeah, those Marionette lines! You know, they have a magical way of disappearing after you create a 6-figure revenue stream in record-time!

🙂

The point I wanted to make is that the experts who are part of the Summit have created significant revenue by offering services and/or programs and/or products.I am intriguing to this topic…

Dan Derry

Hello George.
I’m intrigued by your post and am looking forward to learning more, so will be signing up shortly.
Hopefully your sessions will be at a suitable time for those if us in the UK.
How much detail will you be getting into? I only ask, as I have been on a number of webinars lately (not Danny’s), which discuss generalities and leave out the detail that is so needed?
Sorry to be a pain in the backside here, but I am a bit anal when it comes to numbers – I noticed that the percentages you used in ‘The Differences’ adds up to 106% (39+39+28).
Cheers,
Dan

George

Dan,
Good pickup there: Indeed, the numbers do add up to 106%.
The reason is that, in my spreadsheet, one of the experts simultaneously offered a program AND a service. So that person got included in the formulas in two categories.

The actual %’s are irrelevant. The point I wanted to make is that the experts who are part of the Summit have created significant revenue by offering services and/or programs and/or products.

I wanted people to know that you can success isn’t exclusive to any single category of offering.

As far as the detail, for me, the real learning is in the detail. I personally get very, very irritated when I get advice from someone and it’s so high level and vague, that it’s impractical to implement.

My favorite example is when someone tells you that you simply need to focus on the right things in order to generate a six-figure revenue stream in, say, 80 days. Okay. Right. So my question is, “What are the “right” things?!?” Like specifically.

So that’s my general attitude and approach to the conversations that you’ll hear.

AND, if there is any detail left out, I encourage you to chime in during the Q&A sessions at the end of each session AND during the two Expert Panels.

And if you can’t attend live, we’re setting up a “question bank” where you can submit questions that we’ll address during the Panels.

I hope you’ll join us!

George

I forgot to address your question about UK time…

Most of the sessions are at 6 pm and 8 pm UK time. One session is at 4 pm UK time.

A couple of other sessions run at 10 pm UK time (including one of the Expert Panels).

I’ve found this to be a nifty date/time converter: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

Hey George,

Thanks for writing this. I think it’s a great narrative that you were able to leave behind work as a well-paid physician and support your family as an entrepreneur, for two reasons:

1. People usually think of doctors as lousy businessman, and while some are, you successfully defied the stereotype. Great work!

2. A lot of people are too afraid to leave behind non-physician incomes to start a business. It is a scary thought for many that they might not replace $30K – $50K earnings from their day job if they aren’t successful in business. Your story shows that it is possible well within the first year.

I think many people will find this inspiring, so thanks for sharing.

As for me, I’m still going to medical school! Because healthcare is in such lousy shape, I see it as being full of opportunity. It’s sort of like a Rubik’s cube that most people have no interest in solving.

George

Jacob,
When I was in my plastic surgery residency, I remember distinctly having lunch with one of the visiting professors. And something he said stuck with me:

He said that while medicine was still an honorable profession, be on the lookout for “collateral sources of revenue.”

To me, “collateral sources of revenue” meant entrepreneurial opportunities (as opposed to investments and other passive sources).

You have a growing number of opportunities for collateral revenue that are available WHILE you are in medical school! I’m envious!

Hi George,

Great post! I so enjoyed reading about the commonalities and differences. Couldn’t help thinking how significant the former were and how insignificant the latter. In fact while reading them and thinking how best to summarize and share with my own clients, I couldn’t exclude or re-order the commonalities; I really do believe every single one of them is key!

I’m excited to be in the line-up with you and Freddy and look forward to learning tons from them all. 🙂

George

Samantha,
That’s the interesting that I found: The strategies each of us chose were different, but there were many common themes, experiences, and principles. I have a greater appreciation for those commonalities having spoken with all the experts who are part of this Summit.

So there’s something for everyone to learn from all the sessions in the Summit, whether someone is a “newbie” or is “field-seasoned.”

George

Ruan,
Pat’s right; in a competitive marketing place, you know that buyers are ready to buy.
You simply need to identify how to convey the unique value that you provide; then use your copywriting skills to deliver that message in writing, verbally, and visually.

And it’s important to have a clear, yet malleable idea of your vision for your business and life.
This is an important foundational piece of rapid revenue acceleration.

If you’re up for doing some work on this, feel free to go through a 5-part exercise that I give my private clients on “Visioneering.”

Let us know how the exercises go for you and what you discover!

Anyone else who is following this thread is welcomed to go through the videos and exercises as well.

George,

I just registered for the summit and I am also checking out your visioneering link right now as we speak.

Thanks a million for the advice! I’ll let you know how it goes!

George

Hi Ruan,
Thanks so much for your comments and question.

Here’s how I define a six-figure income: It’s revenue stream that adds up to at least $100,000 within a 12 month period of time.

If you average that out on a monthly basis, it’s $8,333.33/month of revenue.

Of course, for some people, they might product, say $5,000 in a breakthrough month, then generate $9,000/month. So at the end of a 12 month period, they average out to at least $8,333.33/month.

In my case, I generated $10,500/month in recurring revenue by my 73rd day after conceiving of my first promotional event.

Yes, yes, I agree. A six-figure revenue stream in 365 would be just grand. Heck, even doing it in 730 days would work, for most people.

Admittedly, $100,000 doesn’t buy what it used to, but it’s at least a starting point. I call it “getting to the starting line,” because once you understand and have applied the principles to rapidly accelerate to a low six-figure revenue, you’ve built the foundation that gives you more options to accelerate from there.

BTW, I just did a quick cruise through your website and I see that you’re a professional copywriter. In contrast to what you wrote in your comment, “…something good come from it over time and hard work.” I’m not convinced that it needs to be all that hard for your to leverage your expertise and natural skills as a copywriter into a six-figure revenue stream (and beyond).

You have advantages that I didn’t!

I had NO IDEA that I’d create a six-figure revenue stream in 73 days. So a bit of advice for you here: Don’t rule out that big revenue “won’t happen overnight.” Okay, well, maybe in 365 nights?!? 🙂

“See you” at the Rapid Revenue Acceleration Summit!

George

Ruan | HighTechNovation

Hi George,

Thanks for your speedy and detailed reply. That doesn’t happen quite often and I want you to know how much I appreciated that.

Thanks for clearing up the six-figure income for me. Being South African and used to be working in my local currency, I’m not always certain as to how what we are used to measures up with the rest of the world.

Yes, professional copywriting has been part of my life for quite some time now. I have to admit, trying to establish myself and offer my services online is a completely new ballgame to me. I have a few local clients whom I’ve been working with but online can’t be compared to offline.

I just set up this site of mine about two weeks ago, and only after following the advice of another professional copywriter I realized that the only way to start is by actually having a page that offers my services to others. I trust that in future as I build more credibility, trust and quality relationship with people, the opportunities will follow. I am sure the niche or industry I am in does offer incredible potential.

Many told me I’m maybe just a little over-enthusiastic as it’s a very competitive market. Then I read an article by Pat Flynn and he states it best: “Entering a competitive market is a good thing as it opens up much more loopholes which you can tap into”. Excellent, just genius!

Looking forward to be more in contact with you George; I’d be honored to learn as much as possible from you.

Ruan | HighTechNovation

Hi George,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this post. Gosh, I can’t wait for the day I can say I’m earning a recurring six-figure income with my online efforts. Man it’s a dream I won’t let go of. I might not do it in 71 days but even if I can do it in 365 days I’d be regarding myself as pretty successful. One quick question: what exactly is regarded as a six-figure income and over what period of time is it achieved? Monthly?

I do realize that it won’t happen overnight and I am more than willing to take action and do whatever I need in order to get those kind of results. Speaking of which, I am most definitely going over and reserving my spot for what I believe will be an integral part of my inspiration to achieve that success, your case study calls.
